CalcTape – free online calculator with a calculation tape
CalcTape Web is a free online adding machine with a tape and notes – like a printing calculator, right in your browser, with no installation and no sign-up. Instead of just a final result the whole calculation stays visible: every line can be commented and corrected at any time, and everything is recalculated instantly. Combining numbers with freely placed text creates a way of working that keeps simple and complex calculations equally transparent.
Features in detail
- Calculation tape — The calculation is shown as a continuous strip. Every step remains editable, so changes are possible at any time without rebuilding the entire calculation.
- Variables — Values can be named and used more than once. This makes extensive calculations easier to structure and reduces sources of error.
- Comments — Text can be inserted directly between the numbers to explain calculations, describe intermediate results or record assumptions.
- Subtotals — Larger calculations can be divided into sections. This improves the overview and makes individual parts easier to analyse.
- Export functions — Calculations can be saved, shared or processed further in other applications. This makes CalcTape suitable both for short-term notes and for long-term documentation.
Areas of use and typical scenarios
CalcTape suits a wide range of tasks in which calculations are to be presented in a structured and traceable way.
- Budget planning — Drawing up monthly and annual budgets, comparing expenses, planning financial scenarios.
- Project costing — Calculating material costs, time required, hourly rates and quotations. The editable structure makes adjustments during a project straightforward.
- Tax calculation — Documenting net/gross calculations, deductions and comparative calculations. Every step remains visible and can be checked later.
- Financial planning — Analysing loan models, long-term expenses or investment scenarios. Changes can be entered quickly without losing the overview.
- Bookkeeping — Producing traceable calculation tapes for internal documentation, checking receipts or preparatory bookkeeping.
Platforms and environments
CalcTape is available on several platforms and offers the same clear way of working everywhere.

- Windows — Suited to extensive calculations in a professional setting, including structured documentation.
- macOS — A clear desktop application focused on clarity and editable calculation tapes.
- Android — Mobile use for quick calculations on the go, including the comment function.

Advantages of working with CalcTape
Because every step stays visible, errors can be found where they arise instead of being guessed at from the final result. Finished calculations can be shared by link, exported as PDF and are saved locally as you go – as suitable for a quick estimate as for records someone has to retrace later.
